Theory and History

The aim of the creative and design courses is to develop design creativity. The design and creative courses at the Berlin Weissensee School of Art are complemented by academic courses which have their own aim. They contribute to developing students’ critical reasoning and specific knowledge of each subject. The academic courses aim to enable students to develop an awareness of contemporary issues, which in turn will help them focus their view of social challenges and general contexts. The academic courses also aim to help students recognise and shape the interaction between artists and designers and the social contexts that surround them. This requires not only knowledge and ability, but also intellectual skills, since art and design must also be considered theoretically within those contexts and such consideration in turn can become the starting point for further artistic and design creativity.
